Best Way to Clean Your Kitchen Knives
Good quality Chef knives will last for years and years and will probably outlive you, but if not looked after you will be investing in a new set of knives sooner than you think.
One of the quickest ways to dull, chip, and rust your knife blade is to wash your knives in the dishwasher and if your knives have wooden handles they will crack, loosen and eventually fall off.
To me putting a high quality set of kitchen knives in the dishwasher is knife suicide, not only are your knives becoming damaged but you are running the risk of also damaging your dishwasher. Sharp knives can cut the plastic coating on the dishwasher shelves, which exposes the metal underneath and leads to rusting.
The abrasive dishwasher detergent combined with the high heat, and jostling with other dishwasher items will eventually cause the knife blade to dull prematurely and will also give your kitchen knife nicks along the edge.
How many of you throw your kitchen knives in the dishwasher?
Using the dishwasher is not the only way you can damage your knives when cleaning them simply leaving them in your kitchen sink with other kitchenware and utensils is just as bad and is a big no no.

So What is The Best Way to Clean My Kitchen Knives?
The best way to clean your kitchen knives is by hand and it’s actually easier and quicker than you think – there’s no need to put them in the dishwasher at all and if you’re like me you’ll always be reaching for the Chef knife so washing by hand after every use is definitely the way to go.
Don’t leave your knives laying around with bits of food stuck on the blade as not only will this start to tarnish the blade but removing dried on food debris can be a pain in the butt. If you do find that you happen to have some dried food on your knife blade just let the knife soak in shallow water for a few minutes and will be able to easily wipe the food off the blade.
The best way to clean your kitchen knives is to take a sponge or dishcloth and using a mild washing-up liquid or detergent simply wipe away from you along both sides of the blade, go slowly and carefully, keeping the blade edge pointed away from you and your fingers.
NEVER wipe directly down the blade edge or you will find that you will be paying a visit to you nearest ER.
